Register test orders and sample labels
Register lab and imaging orders, print sample labels and move each order through its statuses.
Diagnostics is in the bottom bar for diagnostic centres, and under More → Clinical → Diagnostics for hospitals.
Register an order
- Open Diagnostics and tap create.
- Enter the patient's name, patient ID / UHID, age, gender and phone.
- Add the referring doctor and the source: Walk-in, Home collection, OPD or IPD.
- Choose the department: Laboratory or Imaging.
- Enter the tests requested, for example “CBC, LFT” or “MRI brain plain”.
- Choose the priority: Routine, Urgent or STAT.
- Save.
The order gets an accession number such as DX-000123. The matching protocol checklist is attached straight away.
Sample label
Open the order and print its sample label. It shows the accession number, patient and a QR code. Stick it on the tube, container or request form. Scanning the label from Scan opens the order, so the next person can update it in one step. See QR codes.
Statuses
| Laboratory | Imaging |
|---|---|
| Registered | Registered |
| Sample collected | Scan done |
| Received in lab | (skipped) |
| Processing | Processing |
| Reported | Reported |
| Verified | Verified |
| Delivered | Delivered |
Move the order forward from the order page as the work happens. Each change is recorded with who did it and when.
Each step needs the right role: for example a phlebotomist or nurse marks Sample collected, a lab technician moves it through Received in lab and Processing, and only a Pathologist or Lab manager / chief pathologist can verify a lab report, and only a Radiologist an imaging report (full-access roles can do every step). See Roles and what each can do.
Reject a sample (Laboratory)
If a sample cannot be tested, choose Reject and pick or type a reason, for example haemolysed, wrong tube, insufficient volume or unlabelled. Register a new order for the recollection.
Cancel an order
Any order can be Cancelled, for example when the patient leaves or the doctor withdraws the request.
Rejecting or cancelling an order closes its open checklists, so nobody is reminded about them.
